folk music mixed with electronica

Folktronica & Electro Acoustic

My Folktronica playlist is a meeting of folk based music and modern electronica/beat programming. Banjo, violin and accordion, 60's folk samples, drum machines and light glitchy beats all fertilize the form. Electro Acoustic is similar but with more emphasis on acoustic instruments and more stripped down production. I think the two go well together in a playlist. Mike Rauss & KAYAM

KAYAM | Falafel Pop

Kayam are siblings Mike and Kim Rauss, playing what they affectionately label Falafel Pop: a fusion of the genres they enjoy, a near obsession for chickpeas and much love. The siblings had a cross-cultural upbringing, living at various stages in England, Germany and Israel, and the wanderlust they experienced in their early years has no doubt left an impression on their approach to music making and live performance.Kim sings and plays the Celtic Harp while Mike plays guitar, sings and builds the loops with guitar, percussion, and the occasional beatboxing. https://www.kayamband.com/

Mike Rauss makes live looping seem effortless, this time with a reggae tune that just makes you smile

An infectious slow house pop groove to this track by KAYAM

Tenerife – If I knew what Middle Eastern blues sounded like I would think it sounds like this

‘Joy’ is another great acoustic reggae looping performance.

Portland-based artist saQi is a classically trained composer, producer and trumpet player. Drawing his name from the Sufi title for a mystic muse, saQi creates eclectic electronica that maintains a balance between organic and synthesized sound. His live sets rock the dance floor while maintaining a grace and musical depth to engage the listener. The music is never limited by genre, tempo or any other stylistic elements. Allegiance to the creative flow and its truest expression thereof is saQi’s manifesto. For live performance saQi is often accompanied by the multi-instrumentalist/composer Russ Liquid, as well as Taylor Aglipay on guitar and Saxophones. All three are composers and horn players for the infamous March Fourth Marching Band. – from saQi homepage

Dirtwire is David Satori of Beats Antique, Evan Fraser of Stellamara and Mark Reveley of Byrth .dirtwire.net Dirtwire sits on the back porch of Americana’s future, conjuring up a gris-gris of sound with an amalgamation of traditional instrumentation, world-beat percussion, and electronic soundscapes. Comprised of multi-instrumentalist David Satori (Beats Antique) and Evan Fraser (Hamsa Lila; Stellamara), each performance brings the audience to a mysterious crossroads at an imaginative and seductive moment in time. The result is a rebirth of Americana and beacon for a post-millennial return to downhome goodness.-Soundcloud
